We have all seen and been wowed by the densely colored, richly patterned fabric associated with West Africa. The history of this type of fabric tracks back to the Netherlands and the Vlisco factory where a Dutch entrepreneur in the 1840s began to make faux batik fabric for the Indonesian market. What was a bust in Indonesia, became a mainstay of African clothing and fashion. The series, Dutch Wax Daze explores the colors and patterns of this aesthetic.
